by Noel Coward

Directed by Phil Johnson

Private Lives by Noël Coward is considered one of the most sophisticated, entertaining plays ever written. Elyot and Amanda, tempestuously married, divorced and now honeymooning with new spouses at the same hotel, meet by chance, reignite the old spark and impulsively elope. Soon the fierce love that first brought them together has rekindled. They abscond together, leaving their new spouses behind and initiating a dangerous dance of desire - and violence. Written by Coward in 1930 for his friend Gertrude Lawrence and instantly a stylish West End, Broadway and literary classic, the play has featured the biggest stars in entertainment: Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Burton, Alan Rickman, Tallulah Bankhead and Maggie Smith. Bad behavior and martinis abound for two people, very much in love, but unable to stand each other. Often it is said that love and hate are very close, but can lovers be honest enough to admit they might be better off apart? Find out for yourself and laugh your head off at Private Lives.
